The British Journal of Occupational Medicine stated,

"Nail polish and nail polish removers are essentially mixtures of toxic chemicals. Many of the solvents and substances used in nail varnishes such as toluene, acetone, formaldehyde, and especially phthalates, if present, are reproductive toxicants and hazardous and have been found to cause health problems in workers, including occupational asthma."

....and this wasn't recently, this was in 1992, 16 years ago.

So what is the alternative? I give you (drum roll)....

Suncoat Water-based Nail Polish!
Quick drying, long lasting, water-based nail polish. Toluene, Formaldehyde, Phthalate, Acetate, Alcohol and Acetone free. All chemical solvents have been replaced by water. Tips: We recommend keeping hands out of very warm water for at least 4 hours and recommend using protective gloves for gardening, cleaning, washing up and other household chores!
